Up close and personal with Dr. Nikica Divich

There are many willful acts and ideas that have come and gone in my life but the one that remains with me is my unrelenting drive to connect to the vitality of the universal life force. I call this force Creation, in other words, the living breath in me that has the will to live harmoniously with the Creator outside of me that begets all life itself.
As a young child I was intuitively present in my senses.  This all permeating state led me away from the consumption of animals and cooked substances many times throughout my childhood, creating much grief for my caregivers. I was unhappy, confused and frustrated being caught between what I sensed was right and true to what was expected and forced upon my senses and sensibilities.  For many years I struggled to honor myself and to somehow survive the constant barrage of force, judgment and rejection that accompanied my choices and practices.

I eventually realized that in order to make myself happy, I couldn't change the environment around me, instead I had to willfully thrust myself completely into the direction that yearned within me. Naturally the force needed to propel myself outside of my external situation required an equal or greater force within me. So I initiated a long distance running program in my early teens coupled with calisthenics and, on an intuitive level, making deductions and experiments with foods that lead me, at the age of 18, to start my first self-directed fast.  After forty days of water fasting I had detoxified my body into a lean stature.  For the first time, I felt truly free and alive.

When I came back to the dining table the first food I craved was fruit and so my beginning as a raw foodist commenced with an orange. It didn’t take my senses very long to message my brain that the optimum fuel for life was wrapped up in raw plant foods. I then attempted to discover through experience alone what food my body would graciously embrace without argument. I explored many avenues of raw food fare from living foods, gourmet raw, fruitarianism, mono eating, juicing, and fat free - immersing myself in every kind of raw cruelty-free diet. In tandem I relied on fasting to bring my body back to center after each interrupt. Every raw diet fell short until I finally landed upon one that lead me – one that was no longer impeding my energy levels. I decided to play “Follow the Leader” with this way of eating. The other raw diets provided energy but always falling short of pure unencumbered flow. So I began to totally embrace food substances that were fresh, pure and whole. - In other words, eating only the foods that didn’t impede the flow of life giving energy.

The diet that led me is what is called Natural Hygiene – a diet of proper combining of whole raw plant foods. This translates to eating only fresh raw foods that one can make a meal out of individually - nothing added and nothing subtracted. Eating this way for the past 30 years has been the longest uninterrupted communion I’ve had with the natural world thus far.
                             A Carpenter, A Chef, A Doctor
During my formative years, I explored a variety of physical, spiritual and intellectual endeavors. I graduated from high school which included a fine and rough carpentry building program that formed part of my learning foundation. I went on further to practice with master eco-logical builders along the Northwest coast of North America becoming versed in Cobb and Straw-Bale construction. It is through the act of building that I have learned to meet one of our primary universal needs – the need for shelter and safety. To this day I rely on these honed building skills to provide food on my table.
I have traveled and worked extensively in the food industry for most of my life; from restaurant chefing and management, fruit and vegetable warehousing and distributing, managing produce for health grocers, orchard planting, pruning and harvesting to owning my own vegan deli for 7 years. After gaining work experience and making farm contacts I started my own small business of providing quality organic raw foods to select health seekers. I started Yah Foods 13 years ago out of this continual need to stay connected to our natural human beginnings of harmony and synergy amongst all living matter. The name Yah means “living breath of the Divine” which is literally the food that I distribute. In tandem I created a show and tell raw food preparation series that ran weekly from the fall of 2002-2004, as well as, hosted a video of raw decadent desserts that was produced by Too Much Fun Pictures. Currently, my culinary pursuits include making a line of gourmet raw foods that will make it easier for persons to approach a raw food lifestyle. I also cater gourmet raw private dinners, celebrations and events for a variety of clients.

My intellectual and metaphysical pursuit includes holding a doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which encompasses oriental healing modalities using acupuncture and herbal medicine. I chose this medicinal study to connect my intuitive knowledge with the physical realm of internal body energy flow as well as the connection that herbal medicine has played in keeping us humans treasuring our plant world. I do not call myself a TCM doctor but instead refer to myself as raw food conduit. In other words, a living guide who’s sole purpose to mentor all ready persons back to our natural beginnings as manifestations of pure light, love and harmony.

As a carpenter, chef and doctor I continually experience the natural wonder of Creation as it stands before me offering everything to all of us and expecting nothing in return. My practice, at all times, is to remain as directly and unobstructed with the natural order of all living things. Whether it was in the making of spaces and objects, or creating herbal and juice aides, or mentoring persons in the how-to’s of making and transitioning to life-giving foods – My passion is to inspire people to eat as much whole fresh raw plant matter as they can every day – it is an absolute way to the Absolute.
